TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
Arizona House of Representatives Appropriations Committee budget town hall meeting was the fourth of five being held across Arizona.
They are aimed at giving the public an opportunity to voice where they were like to see the state spend its nearly $10 billion budget.
For the hundreds of people who attended the town hall on the University of Arizona campus, a majority of them said they would like to see more money spent on education.
In a close, second and third, healthcare and facilities that care for the intellectually and developmentally disabled were other areas the public asked for more funding.
As for where the money should come from, people said they would not like to see money spent on jails or prisons.
Chair of the Arizona House of Representatives Appropriations Committee, Rep. Justin Olson, said these town halls are positive and production when it comes to having conversations with the community and getting those concerns to the state capital.
“I think it is critical that we use the resources that the state has as effective and as efficiently on those priorities education, healthcare and the most needy among us,” he said.
The final town hall meeting will be in Yuma, March 19.
